Equine Facilitated Activities and Therapy, (EFAT), an online continuing education program developed by experts in the field, is now offered by the Continuing and Professional Studies Office at Texas A&M University.

In the rapidly growing field of animal assisted therapy, EFAT provides continuing education credentials through a unique, effective approach for therapy, officials note.

Four tracks, hippotherapy (instructor Sarah Pictor), therapeutic riding (instructor Lili Kellogg), equine facilitated psychotherapy (instructor Leslie McCullough Moreau), and horse care (instructor J. Warren Evans) are designed to bring the benefits of partnering with the horse to those with physical, cognitive and sensory, emotional, social or psychological disabilities.

These self-paced online modules explore the world of teaching, learning, and understanding through the instincts and senses of the horse, organizers explain.

Personalized study through internships, clinical research and special topics are also available.

The program is flexible for a wide spectrum of career paths, from individuals with a genuine desire to know more about this emerging field to individuals needing practitioner-based skills or advance research to improve their knowledge.

Completion earns the participant continuing education credit from Texas A&M University.
