Frank Larkin had a personal goal in life to endow a Sul Ross Scholarship on the 50th anniversary of his graduation from Texas A&M University and he did it.

“It’s important to consider giving something back to Texas A&M. The education I received enabled me to have a full career and a better life,” said Larkin, of New Orleans, La. He committed $25,000 to the Guy Matthew Altman ’99 Memorial Sul Ross Scholarship, which will benefit students in the Corps of Cadets.

A member of the Class of 1957, Larkin graduated with a degree in geology and received a commission in the U. S. Air Force as a second lieutenant. He served three years active duty in Kansas and Japan and spent an additional nine years in the Air Force Reserve while working in New Orleans as a geologist.

When Exxon promoted Mr. Larkin to district geologist, he moved to Long Beach, Calif. for a little over three years before moving to Midland. He ultimately ended up in New Orleans as division supervising geologist over the Southeastern District and retired in 1992 after 34 ½ years with Exxon.

Larkin said he hopes this gift of financial support will assist the recipient in their progress towards a degree.

Sul Ross scholarships are awarded to students with outstanding scholarship and extracurricular records. This encourages high school graduates to join the Corps of Cadets and benefit from its leadership training.
