The first day of class isn’t until next Monday (Aug. 27), but incoming freshmen in the Corps of Cadets reported to their units Sunday (Aug. 19) to start Freshmen Orientation Week (FOW) — the 30th year of the program.

Conducted by the Office of the Commandant and experienced cadet leaders, FOW is the freshmen’s first taste of life in the corps at Texas A&M. Approximately 700 freshmen — the Class of 2011 — will participate.

The purpose of FOW is to introduce new “fish” to the basics of corps lifestyle and operations, and to prepare them for the academic year. The week includes a military review on the cadet dormitory quadrangle Friday (Aug. 24) at 5:30 p.m.
