New iTunes Store Offers Sights And Sounds Of Aggieland Online

The top-tier research university was selected by Apple as one of only 16 colleges and universities in the nation to help launch iTunes U.

iTunes UInterested in hearing world-renowned speakers? Need insider tips on applying for admissions? Want to experience the sights and sounds of Aggieland?

These selections are some of the free downloadable video and audio content now available from Texas A&M University on the iTunes Store. The top-tier research university was selected by Apple as one of only 16 colleges and universities in the nation to help launch iTunes U on May 30.

Examples of downloadable content available from Texas A&M University include speeches from world leaders, academic research, history and traditions, campus services and student events.

“We are pleased to be the only school in Texas featured in the launch,” says Steve Moore, chief marketing officer and vice president for communications. “Millions visit the iTunes Store daily so this initiative is an innovative way to share the Texas A&M story with the world.”

The iTunes U launch now makes free educational content available through the popular online Apple iTunes Store which contains more than 5 million songs, 350 television shows, 500 movies, and other material. Users can download audio content to personal computers, MP3 players, phones and iPods and watch video material with video-capable iPods.

“All of our content is open for the public to experience Texas A&M University ‘on the go’,” added Olga West, executive director of marketing.

“Texas A&M on iTunes U is another way for Aggies, future Aggies and parents to connect to resources in a format that supports their mobile lifestyles,” says Dean Bresciani, vice president for student affairs.

Several Texas A&M organizations and affiliated agencies have recently added new content including the Integrative Center for Homeland Security.

“Texas A&M on iTunes U offers the ability to serve our subject matter to a broad audience in a convenient, easy-to-use package,” said David H. McIntyre, director of the Integrative Center for Homeland Security at Texas A&M. “For our audience, it provides the ability to pick and choose among subjects, to review them at will, to focus on what most interests them, and to do so at their own speed. Speed, breadth, choice, focus and convenience: These are the characteristics of iTunes U learning.”
