Texas A&M University is the only public college in Texas to appear in the 2018 Fiske Guide to Colleges, a listing which cites the best colleges that offer a superior education for the most affordable cost.

The guide grades schools for its best buy list based on academic programs and quality in relation to total cost. In short, the colleges listed are the best bargains for the money.

Texas A&M is the only public university in Texas to make the list, and Rice University is the only private school in the state in the Fiske Guide. Only two other Southeastern Conference schools – the University of Florida and the University of Missouri – made the Fiske Guide this year.

“Parents and students are becoming increasingly cost-conscious,” according to Edward Fiske, author of the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2018.

“At the same time, parents know that if they’re going to pour lots of money into higher education, they want the best education possible for their child, within their financial limits,” adds Fiske, a former education editor for The New York Times who created the guide 34 years ago.
