The Bush School of Government and Public Service welcomes Michael Bottiglieri as Texas A&M Foundation director of development for the Bush School. Bottiglieri, a 27-year veteran of the U.S. Army, joined the Texas A&M Foundation in December 2016 after previously serving as the head of the Texas A&M School of Military Science.
Bottiglieri’s says his desire to work for the Texas A&M Foundation and the Bush School was a desire to give back, pass on lessons learned during a lifetime of public service, and secure the legacy and values of President Bush for future generations to experience and grow from. The Texas A&M Foundation is a nonprofit organization responsible for soliciting and managing investments in academics and leadership programs and works to enhance excellence at Texas A&M University.
Bottiglieri graduated from TAMU in 1989 with a degree in business administration and was commissioned as a Distinguished Military Graduate. He is a veteran of nine combat tours in the Middle East and has served in Airborne, Ranger, Mechanized, Armor, Training, and Special Operations Units before retiring at the rank of colonel in the Infantry. Bottiglieri also attended the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterrey, California, where he earned a master of science degree in defense analysis.
His distinguished military career included professional education at the Command and General Staff College; Combined Arms and Service Staff School; Asymmetric Warfare Adaptive Leaders Course; Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape Course; Infantry Officer Basic and Advance Courses; Calvary Scout Commanders Course; Battalion Motor Officer Course; Ranger Officer Orientation Program; Jumpmaster Course; Air Movement Officer Course; Mortar Platoon Officer Course; Pathfinder Course; Ranger Course; and Airborne Course.
Bottiglieri has received numerous awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star with silver and two bronze oak leaf clusters, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with silver leaf cluster, and Army Achievement Medal with four bronze oak leaf clusters. He has also received the Valor’s Unit Award, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Superior Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal 2nd award, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two bronze service stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with four campaign stars, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with three campaign stars, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon 2nd award, NATO Medal, Saudi Arabia Liberation Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge 2nd award, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Ranger Tab, Pathfinder Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, and Canadian Parachutist Badge.
