Rivalry was set aside for a moment at the Thanksgiving Day football game between Texas A&M and LSU when Aggie student leaders presented their Tiger counterpart with a check for $50,000 to help the students, faculty and staff members who suffered dire effects due to this summer’s flooding in Louisiana.
The fundraising campaign, “Side-by-Side,” kicked off Nov. 15, led by Texas A&M Student Body President Hannah Wimberly and Executive Vice President Dan Rosenfield.
“It was so incredible to pass the check to the representative from LSU,” Wimberly notes. “They were so appreciative, and I am confident that this money will go a long way to help our friends rebuild.”
Rosenfield expresses his gratitude to those who stepped up to help a fellow SEC university.
“We are so thankful to the extended Aggie family for supporting this endeavor. Those affected by the floods in Baton Rouge will still need our help for months to come, and these donations will play a key role in the recovery process.”
Half of the funds raised will benefit LSU students and the other half will go to LSU faculty and staff members affected by the flooding.
The money will go directly to the LSU Foundation, according to the foundation’s Senior Director of Communications and Marketing Sara Whittaker. She refers to the campaign as a selfless act by Aggies that will have a tangible result for the LSU community.
