Aggies canTexas A&M is the home of the largest student-athlete run canned food drive in the nation. The 2016 Aggies CAN food drive event began Sunday with the volleyball match and women’s basketball game and will continue through the Aggie football game on Saturday (Nov. 19) against UTSA.

Directed by the Aggie Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), over 200 student-athletes helped last year in raising more than $40,000 in cash and 9,000 pounds of canned goods that benefited The 12th Can, the Brazos Valley Food Bank, and the South Carolina Flood Relief. This year’s recipients will be the Brazos Valley Food Bank and The 12th Can. In an effort to make an even greater impact, SAAC has partnered with Whataburger and KAGS-TV for the 2016 campaign.

“We have an incredibly passionate, caring group of student athletes who are invested in our community,” Texas A&M Director of Athletics Scott Woodward said. “This year their efforts to give back directly impacts the Brazos Valley Food Bank and the 12th Can. Our student athletes have taken the Texas A&M values of leadership and selfless service and put them on display through Aggies Can. I could not be more proud of their hard work and effort to make a difference. Thank you to our fans for their generous support of this great initiative.”

SAAC and Aggie student-athletes will wear lime green shirts throughout the week of Nov. 13-19 at various home athletics events and will be happy to accept monetary donations or canned good items. Fans who make a donation will receive a coupon for a free Whataburger (while supplies last).

Fans who bring four canned food items to the men’s basketball game on Monday (Nov. 14) or the women’s basketball game on Thursday (Nov. 17) will be admitted free.
