Statewide Graduation Ceremonies Begin Wednesday

Commencement highlights Texas A&M University’s commitment to developing leaders of character dedicated to serving the greater good.

handshake at commencementThe College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences kicks off spring graduation ceremonies at Texas A&M University Wednesday (May 11) at 2 p.m. in Rudder Auditorium with the awarding of an expected 130 Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees.

In all, during 15 ceremonies around the state and one internationally, Texas A&M is expected to award more than 9,000 degrees, which would be a spring record for the university and among the most for any institution in the nation.

University officials point out that the graduation and commissioning figures are based on current filings and related status and can be expected to vary slightly by the time of the ceremonies.

Commencement ceremonies continue through May 26, including seven ceremonies locally in Reed Arena Thursday through Saturday (May 12-14), which will be broadcast on KAMU TV.

Those ceremonies, with the awarding of more than 8,100 degrees from 10 colleges, will include recognition of the recipients of top university-level awards for faculty and students—the Presidential Professors for Teaching Excellence, the Brown Foundation-Earl Rudder Memorial Outstanding Student Award, the Robert Gates-Muller Family Outstanding Student Award and the Doherty Award for the most outstanding graduating cadets commissioned into military service through each of the university’s ROTC programs.

The 2 p.m. Friday (May 13) ceremonies will include the commissioning of a projected 115 members of the Corps of Cadets who have earned officer status in the armed services.

In addition to the multiple ceremonies this weekend, separate ones will be held for the university‘s graduates at its branch campus in Galveston (estimated 254 students)—a record for the branch campus—as well as for the Texas A&M University School of Law in Fort Worth (161 students) and at several sites around the state for the colleges and schools that are part of the Texas A&M University Health Science Center (total of 684 students across the five allied health-related colleges).

Texas A&M graduation ceremonies actually began Thursday (May 5) with commencement ceremonies at Texas A&M University at Qatar, the university’s engineering-oriented branch campus in Doha, where 77 students were scheduled to receive degrees.
