Jaclyn Davis, a maritime studies major at Texas A&M University at Galveston, has been named  volunteer of the year by the American Undersea Warfare Center.

Officials with the center say Davis is not only the  youngest but also the  first female to win this award.

“This is a huge deal for us! without our loyal volunteers, we would not be able to continue our mission, says Lisa Simmons, museum director.

The American Undersea Warfare Center is located at Seawolf Park and Simmons says the center is  devoted to preserving our nations naval military past focusing on the WWII era through maintaining  historic vessels the USS Cavalla submarine SS-244, and the USS Stewart DE-238, as well as educating the public on the same topic.
